Blue Card (Blaue Karte EU)
Since 2012 is the a new residence permission, called Blue Card in effect. According to the german law everybody in possession of the German or the equal foreign university degree and with a respective Job offer with a annual gross income over about 58.400€ can apply for a Blue Card. The professionals, which belong to the group of wanted employees, such as natural scientists, mathematicians, medical doctors and IT-Specialists can apply for a Blue Card even with a less annual income.

Permanent Residence Permit
The Blue Card holder can apply for a permanent residence permit after already 33 months of legal residence in Germany and in case of reaching the language level B1 after 21 months. The holders of other residence permits for the purpose of employment can also apply for the permanent residence permit under the same requirements as the Blue card holders.
Generally the applicants have to apply for a blue card in their origin country, unless they were already in possession of the German residence permit or of the blue card in another EU country. The family members can enter Germany with the blue card holder and apply for their own resident permit.
